Aug 2, 2002 - Anders first to market with PLED displays
The UK market now has access to the latest generation of electronic display modules – based on PLED technology – through Anders Electronics
London, 2 August 2002. Anders Electronics has been appointed as a distributor for Taiwanese display manufacturer, Delta Optoelectronics. The development means that Anders has become the first company to bring a range of PLED (polymer light emitting diode) displays to the UK market. Available now, the products have significant advantages over LCD technology, and are expected to form the basis of the next generation of high-performance displays, with a very wide range of applications.
The benefits of PLED over LCD displays include faster response, lower power consumption, wider viewing angles and higher brightness and contrast - a combination which means that that they offer a wide range of benefits for the current and emerging generation of hand-held and portable products. These include the ability to design displays which are easier on the eye than LCDs and which are “cooler” to view. With response times up to 1000 times faster than LCDs, PLED products can also deliver sharper, high-contrast images and smoother moving displays. PLEDs have viewing angles up to 160o, are more than 10 times brighter than TV screens, and require no backlights - making them extremely thin, light and power-efficient.
As a leader in the field of emissive display technology, Delta Optoelectronics - a subsidiary of Delta Electronic Inc. – is at the forefront of product development, and has technology
partnership agreements with Cambridge Display Technology and Dow Chemical Co., the US-based technology giant which supplies the polyfluorene material which is the basis of PLED displays.
The first range of products, now available from Anders, are small form-factor monochrome dot-matrix displays ideal for a wide range of consumer, and other, applications. The products have the same interface requirements as LCD equivalents, and require no special drivers. Although this first range from Delta is monochrome, Dow has already developed coloured copolymers and full-colour displays are very much a part of Delta’s product development roadmap. Currently, Delta is rapidly ramping up its substrate manufacture capability to support the expected growth in demand.
“This agreement with Delta is another example of our ability to forge close partnerships with high-quality Far East manufacturers,” commented Hugh Coghill-Smith, Marketing Director of Anders. “These companies need the support of local partners which can offer very high levels of value-add, in terms of technical support and commercial experience, and we have a proven track-record in this area.”
As well as advanced LCD and alternative display products, plus a comprehensive range of support products, such as controller cards and interconnect solutions, Anders has the ability to provide customer support at every stage of a project from concept and design objectives, through to manufacture and delivery.
