TPO is a leading provider of mobile small and medium size display solutions and technologies. The company was formed in June 2006 through the merger of Philips’ mobile display unit and Taiwanese mobile display manufacturer Toppoly. With a monthly output exceeding 10m units, TPO is now the world’s second-largest small-size display manufacturer. Prior to the merger, Philips was the world’s fourth-largest mobile display maker, and Toppoly ranked 12th.
Building on the complementary capabilities and competencies of founding partners Toppoly Optoelectronics Corp. and Philips MDS, TPO is providing customers across the telecommunications, consumer electronics, medical, automotive and avionics industries with access to innovative LTPS TFT displays that provide advanced features and performance to enable marketplace differentiation and competitiveness.
Low-temperature poly-silicon (LTPS) is a manufacturing technique used to make active matrix (TFT) displays with high resolutions and lower power consumption.
Most of the displays now seen in PDAs and smartphones use this technology.
